ST. LUKE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH WOMEN (ACW)

Who are the members of ACW?

All women of any age who attend St. Luke’s are members of ACW.  St. Luke’s is blessed with an extraordinarily talented and hard working group of women.

What is the purpose of ACW?

The following prayer is read at the beginning of each meeting:

Almighty God, Our Heavenly Father, we pray Thee to bless and direct our work for the extension of Thy Kingdom; and make us thankful for the gift of Thy beloved Son, that we may pray fervently, labor diligently, and give freely to make Him known to all as Savior and King; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord.   Amen.

The Provincial ACW Handbook states that the purpose of ACW is to “…support, through Christian charity, the mission of the Church in the Parish, Diocese and Province in such ways as shall be determined by the Rector, Bishop, or Archbishop and the membership of ACW. “

The above prayer and statement of purpose provide a framework within which each ACW chapter develops its own unique organization and activities in order to meet the needs of its particular parish.

How is St. Luke’s ACW fulfilling its purpose?

As a result of fundraising events, St. Luke’s  ACW makes many charitable contributions throughout the year. For example:

  • Annual Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for those in need in our community
  • Occasional contributions to charitable organizations such as CARE-NET and Francis House
  • Phone and gift cards for our seminarians when needed
  • Contributions to our Bishop’s Discretionary Fund
  • New furniture for Baugh Hall
  • New prayer books and hymnals for our parish

Our chapter also works at meeting the needs of those in our parish in the following ways:

  • A phone tree for the purpose of providing prayer, meals, and practical help for parishioners in need
  • Our Sunshine Lady sends cards of remembrance and encouragement to members of our church family

ACW is largely responsible for the social life of our parish.

How can I participate?

  • Attend monthly meetings on the first Saturday of every month at 10:00.  This is a great way to keep abreast of the needs of our parish as well as upcoming events. Your ideas and input are enthusiastically received. Come for coffee, treats, fun and productive work.
  • If you are unable to attend Saturday meetings, let an ACW officer know that you are willing to help with fundraisers and social events. There are myriad ways to contribute.
