St. Lukes Anglican

St Luke’s Anglican Church of Redding, located at the northern end of California’s Central Valley, was founded in 1982, through the efforts of a few hardy and committed souls, including its first Rector, now-Canon Boardman C. Reed, and the active participation and organizational assistance of then-Bishop Robert Sherwood Morse, of the Diocese (now Province) of Christ the King. As with many new missions, the young parish initially met for services in the homes of its original members, and other available temporary spaces before finding a permanent home.

In 1983 St. Luke’s purchased an existing church building, together with an adjoining rectory, and furnished it appropriately for traditional Anglican faith and worship. Periodically updated and improved, this building and the “old rectory” are still in use for regular worship, Sunday School, social events and other activities, while St. Luke’s vestry, wardens and members actively review plans for construction of a new, larger church building to accommodate further expansion of its parish family and programs under the leadership of its current Rector, Fr. Jeffrey Smith.
